Eons ago, before even the first light flickered into existence, there was Darkness. Unaware, unending, and alone; the Darkness existed for countless ages in seclusion, for It was all there was. There were no planets, there were no stars, and there was no time. However; the Darkness did not weep, or even feel sorrow, for this was all the Darkness knew. Then, the Light came into being. The Darkness felt confused. There was... something... something other than Itself. There was a place where the Darkness was not because something else was. The Light began small, just a flicker of a being, and then began to grow. The Light grew and the Darkness puzzled.

The Darkness managed to reach out to the Light, to convey a vague emotion. It had never had to convey anything before, never had to communicate. There was nothing to communicate with until recently. All the same, the Darkness' feelings reached the Light, It's curiosity reached.

The Darkness felt something resonate, a feeling that came from an external source. It was the Light, the Light's feelings responding in kind to the Darkness' own attempt to communicate. The Light felt fear, it was so small compared to the Darkness and didn't understand its own existence.

Their communication began fragmented, broken, and immature. The Darkness had never needed to understand anything, it only ever needed to exist. The Light was young and fearful, still growing used to being. The Two talked, exchanging vague emotions and concepts at first, then their consciousnesses became more refined. Their thought grew in coherence as they spoke, and they began to enjoy each other's company. Soon, a new being came about...This time there were two, two beings that arose in twinship. One radiated Heat and flickered about wildly with passion. The other flowed beautifully and washed about in calming elegance. They were young, like the Light once was. The Darkness and the Light taught them how to communicate, and welcomed them in kind; though these new kin were, too, afraid of the Darkness like the Light had once been. These new beings brought about a new problem, they oft confused who was being spoken to. Thus, they assigned each other a name. The one who flickered in Heat, Passion, Fervor, and Ambition was named Ignis. That which ebbed and flowed in Tranquility and Peacefullness was dubbed Aqua. The Light which glowed in Hopefullness and Joy was given the name Lux.Finally, the Darkness who reigned as Eldest and was feared was called Tenebris. These names allowed communication with lessened confusion, and strengthened their bond. Names were also given to those who came after. Terra was strong and willful, Atmos was playful and mysterious, Deus was creative and full of ideas, and Interitus was jealous and quick to anger. The eight of them grew and interacted, simply content with the company of each other, except for Deus. A spirit of creativity and aspiration, Deus yearned for more. Using It's unique power; and borrowing from Tenebris, Lux, Terra, Atmos, Aqua, and Ignis; Deus created what It called "The Universe". Built upon the being of the Elementals from whom it was made, The Universe existed in perfect balance split between Spiritual and Physical planes and it's law governed by personified Aspects. With a place that could house all of Deus' creation and ideas, It split Itself apart into 10,000 pieces, each with the power of creation. These new beings, "Deities" carried out the will of Deus in filling The Universe with wondrous things and colorful ideas. The Physical Plane was filled with planets and stars and celestial wonders. The Spiritual Plane was home to Fae and Angels and beings of mystery and wonder. The Elementals, in long for companionship with the creations of their late friend, came to the deity L'neira. Being the one who created mortal beings to populate the planets made by Gher'ran, L'neira gifted the Elementals with bodies they could use to mingle with physical beings. They found joy in the adventures and aspirations of the creative deities, save for Tenebris whom preferred the company of mortals.Harmony shakily proceeded for many millennia as the mortals and Deities grew in population. Amongst both groups, some were wrought with jealousy and envy and pride. As these individuals grew restless, peace inevitably broke. Amongst the deities, dissenters took over in power, proclaiming that they should be worshipped and praised by mortal-kind. Heirarchy was developed amongst the deities, with those at the bottom being treated like slaves by those above. In accordance with the pride of the deities in power, religions were formed amongst the mortals. They would sacrifice to the deities their crops and cattle, dedicate to them their buildings and labor, and even at times persecute their own per the will of their gods. Some deities refused to submit to the heirarchy and went into hiding. Amongst them were L'neira and Gher'ran, the creators of the planets and mortals who were being treated so harshly. The Elementals had decided not to interfere. Should the deities decide to rule their creation with an iron fist, it was to their discretion. So the Elementals looked the other way, except for Tenebris. Having become quite fond of the mortals, the Darkness stood against the unjust rule. First in warning, then in war.The deities had long forgotten their origin, and their pride fueled them with the belief that they had right to rule over all, including the Elementals. In the war between the Darkness and the deities, countless deities had met their demise. No matter how many gods took up arms, it was impossible to kill an Elemental. Instead, with the powers of millions of deities combined, they invoked a seal on the Darkness, leaving It aslumber.Eons passed, ages gone by, civilizations rose and fall, histories written and lost, and the deities who formed the seal dwindled. As they perished in feuds and wars, the seal weakened and fractured. Younger deities, having only known the Darkness through legends, had no fear of Its return. With no new seal bearers to keep the invocation in check, the Darkness broke free...Today, the first Elemental who was once so feared, returns...
